Hi!

My name is Lilly Schultejans, and I am a junior at Kansas State University studying history and political science with a pre-law emphasis. As part of the curriculum for the History of K-State course, students are required to research a specific aspect of the university’s history. I chose to focus on the history of Greek life at K-State because, as a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, I am a proud participant in the Greek community. Through my own experiences, I have seen the meaningful impact Greek life has on students and the broader Manhattan community, which inspired my interest in exploring the history behind that influence.

This is the box where I obtained a majority of my archival material. There was a variety of material such as Greek newspapers and recruitment booklets. I do wish however, that there was more information of fraternities as there was substantially more material on sororities.

This book gave a good description of the reasoning for fraternities and sororities being founded across the country, however I wish it touched more on some later aspects of Greek life such as philanthropic involvement.

This book only mentions Greek life a few times, but when it did touch on the subject it gave good insight into how Greek life was affected my major events such as the Influenza Pandemic and both World Wars.
